Tooth decay, which is also known as a cavity, is a serious and dangerous dental issue that can harm your smile and affect your oral health. When you fall victim to a cavity, it’s important to get it treated right away otherwise it might spread and harm more of your tooth and smile. To find out if you have a cavity, our dentists, Drs. Jim Nored & Annette Gemp, encourage you to look for a number of symptoms, which are:

– A soft spot. Your dentist will find these soft spots during your dental appointment by using a special tool to probe your teeth. The soft spot is weak enamel that has given way to bacteria. In addition to the soft spot, you might even see the cavity with your naked eye, which is a small or large hole in the tooth surface.

– A toothache. Your toothache will be constant and it will last for multiple days—longer than two days to be exact. The ache will be tough to relieve and it might even make it tough to rest or sleep.

– Tooth sensitivity. The sensitivity will typically occur when you consume hot or cold foods and drinks or when you are outside and you breathe in the cold air.
