How to Have an Environmentally Healthy Oral Hygiene Routine

Posted .

If you’re interested in improving the environment while you brush your teeth and clean your smile, then our Crosby Dental Center team is more than happy to help you! There are things you can do during your oral hygiene routine that can help improve your environment, and those things are:

-Turn off the tap: There is no need to keep the tap running while you brush your teeth. So, after you soak your toothbrush, turn the tap off so you can save water.

-Recycle your toothbrush: Once your toothbrush is worn down and useless, it’s time to replace it. However, instead of throwing your toothbrush away, it’s best to use it for something else, like cleaning the toilet, cleaning your computer keyboard, or painting a small object.

-Say no to microbeads: Some toothpaste brands add microbeads to their product to make it sparkle. Even though this might look cool, it’s also very dangerous. When these microbeads are washed down the drain, they pile up in rivers and lakes. Then, the fish and other animals mistake these beads for food, which can be extremely dangerous for their health. So, it’s best to purchase a toothpaste that does not contain polyethylene.

-Consider using compostable tools: Your toothbrush and floss don’t need to pile up in a landfill. You can keep the environment clean by using biodegradable products, like those that are made of silk, corn-based plastic, wood, and bamboo.
