A Saltwater Rinse Might Help with Oral First-Aid

Posted .

Oral problems can range from traumatic injuries to the effects of an ineffective oral hygiene routine.
When teeth, gums or soft oral tissues are significantly damaged, you might need to apply some simple oral first-aid while you are waiting to see our dentists, Drs. Jim Nored & Annette Gemp.

If you have blood or unwanted debris in your mouth, it can make it hard to assess severity of the trauma to teeth and soft tissues. Sometimes a gentle saltwater rinse can help clean your mouth without irritating traumatized oral tissues. When you call to make your appointment at Crosby Dental Center talk with one of our staff members about additional first-aid measures to help reduce the pain until your appointment.

If experience swelling in your soft tissues, try applying a cold compress for up to twenty minutes. If you don’t have one readily available, you might be able to improvise with a bag of frozen vegetables or a plastic bag filled with ice and wrapped in a tea towel.

If you are in the Houston, Texas, area and you have suffered a significant oral trauma, you should call 281-328-3569 to seek emergency treatment at Crosby Dental Center.
